New Banners and Themes To Spruce Up Your Website
One of the easiest ways to spruce up your NoteWay website is to upload your own banner through the control panel. You can use any graphic you want for your banner as long as it’s in jpeg format. The control panel will automatically resize your banner to fit into the space at the top of every page.
Even if you don’t yet have a banner to upload, you’ll be happy to know that we recently updated all of the themes in our theme gallery to have nicer looking “default” banners. The default banners are now better integrated with the designs, giving your website a more professional, polished look.
We also recently added a new theme to our theme gallery dubbed “Red Stripes”. You can see this theme in use at the website of Minnesota-based musician, MJ Kroll. We’re always open to ideas for new themes to add to our theme gallery. Please contact us if you have any suggestions for new themes.
Featured Article: Music Marketing, Publicity and Promotion Seminar
Last Wednesday, I had the pleasure of attending an educational seminar in St. Paul, MN, called “Music Marketing, Publicity and Promotion”, hosted by the Minnesota Music Academy. I thought I’d share with you some of the advice I picked up at this seminar. You may be able to use some of these ideas to help raise awareness of your new band, upcoming performance, or CD release.
Marketing vs. Publicity vs. Promotion
Although marketing, publicity and promotion may all seem like the same thing, there are some important differences between these three concepts that you should be aware of.
Marketing is all about getting to know the music industry and networking with other people in your genre. Try to take advantage of every opportunity that comes along to meet people and spread the word about your band. Think about what makes your band unique and who your target market is. One of the expert panelists, Scott LeGere of the Institute of Production and Recording, talked about how important it is to know your audience and market to them directly. If you don’t have a proper focus for your marketing efforts, you could end up wasting a lot of time, effort and money. On the other hand, a properly focused campaign aimed at your target audience can be very effective. He called this concept “narrowcasting” (as opposed to “broadcasting”). The musical artist, Prince, has used this technique with great success through his website.

Uploading Files Made Easier
During the next couple of days, we’ll be rolling out improvements to the way in which file uploads are handled in the control panel. The most significant improvement is that there is now a dynamic progress bar that will give you feedback on the progress of your upload.
This should be especially useful when uploading a large MP3 file, for example. It is also now possible to upload files up to 15 MB in size, whereas the previous limit was 8 MB. Uploading a file works pretty much the same as before, just remember to click the “Upload” button after selecting a file to upload, and then click “Save Changes” to save the rest of the information on the form.
